Resources and equipment

Our group has the following infrastructure:

• Three fully equipped organic chemistry laboratories for research in organic synthesis and biocatalysis.

• A laboratory equipped for the most specific work in microbiology that includes a laminar flow hood, centrifuges, orbital shakers and, in general, the necessary material for the growth and purification of enzymes.

• Analysis equipment for monitoring organic and biocatalytic reactions, as well as measurement of conversions and enantioselectivity of the products: four HPLC equipment, two gas chromatographs, a capillary electrophoresis equipment and a UV/VIS spectrophotometer.

• Equipment for the characterization of organic compounds: two infrared spectrophotometers and a polarimeter.

The group belongs to the Organic and Inorganic Chemistry Department of the University of Oviedo, so it also has at its disposal the common equipment and facilities of the Department and the Faculty of Chemistry where it is located.

Additionally, it has the facilities offered by the Scientific and Technical Services of the University of Oviedo (SCTs) for the characterization of molecules. Mainly:

• Nuclear Magnetic Resonance with five spectrometers with different characteristics: AV600, AV400, DPX300 and two AV300, one of them with a robot for auto-sampling.

• Mass spectrometry

• X-ray diffraction unit

• Thermal Testing and Elemental Analysis Unit

• Cytometry laboratory consisting of different units (cell analysis by flow cytometry, cell separation by FACS – Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting –, nucleic acid hybridization techniques).
